Maintaining the equipment.

 

Depending on the machine, most will need to be maintained, and this can vary from low to high, this is dictated by its use, the more its used the mote maintenance it will need.  Obvious as that statement is, it's surprising how it can be forgotten.

As more pressing issues need to be addressed first, this is how work life normally gets done and regular maintenance gets delayed for the priority of production (as the more production that goes out the door, the more secure the company will be).

This is a bouble edged sword, as the equipment that is needed to create the production needs to be maintained as a breakdown will cause down-time and that can inevitably cause added cost to production.

Companies can initially run production without technical backup such as engineers, as they get more successful, the necessity become pressing as down-time in production becomes more critical.

The more production created the more maintenance is required, multi-skilled engineers are becoming difficult to find and companies are having to resort to looking at ways to resolve the issue of down-time, this normally means finding competent workers, or even investing in automation to improce productivity, this will inevitably require specialised maintenance (= more cost).

This can become ever increasing cycle that if not kept under control can escalate costs, there are many ways of controlling Production costs by evaluating your needs and how to initially create a production line.

This will entail the space you need to place the linem the processes needed to supply the product to market/customer.

In that there are many things to be considered and most companies start with a product that becomes popular, and from there this becomes a fire fighting operation of solving issue by issue which doesn;t seem to ever end.
